New York Street Remains Closed Following Façade Collapse
Construction accident sends a hail of bricks and concrete plummeting 35 stories from the Upper East Side Building in New York.
Police are still freezing the area until further notice as clean up continues. The accident occurred during Monday night and saw a tirade of masonry fall from the Manhattan high-rise building during the repointing process (renewing external parts of mortar joints in masonry constructions).
Fortunately, no injuries were reported but this story does highlight the level of care that needs to be taken when working on external cladding and façade projects: particularly in public areas.
More details are likely to be released soon and it will be interesting to see what went wrong.
